BIRDLIFE KZN EXHIBITION

(European Nightjar: Photograph by Simon Milliken)

As its contribution to celebrating the International Year of Biodiversity (2010), BirdLife Port Natal is hosting a photographic exhibition in conjunction with the Durban Natural History Museum. The exhibition simultaneously highlights the recent upgrade and improvements to the Museum.

Members of the club were invited to contribute their best bird photographs and a panel of experts have chosen the 30 most outstanding of these to be on display. In addition, all the photographs submitted will be presented as a slide show on plasma screens.

Young visitors to the BirdLife Port Natal stand at the annual Plant Fair at the Botanic Gardens in September 2010 contributed their artwork on birds to the club and these works of art will also be on display during the exhibition.

The exhibition will be launched on October 13 at a gala event where the current Acting Director of the Museum and Curator of Birds, David Allan, will deliver the keynote address. The exhibition will then be open to the public from October 14 to 27 at the Durban Natural Science Museum in Anton Lembede Street (Smith Street), Durban. Entry is free. More information from Arnia van Vuuren on 083 271 2919 or Lesley Frescura on 083 231 3408.
