KZNYO GALA CONCERT

(Pic: The KZNYO at Stellenbosch)

The KZN Youth orchestra will present their annual gala concert on October 9, showcasing no less than 50 talented young musicians from around KZN between the ages of 12 and 23. They will perform a variety of orchestral music ranging from Baroque and Classical to rock and pop. The programme promises to contain something for all music lovers.

The KZNYO has been active this year with an eclectic variety of performances ranging from an Indian music collaboration in Tongaat with the Luxmi entertainers, concerts for Retirement complexes both local and as far afield as Margate, a shared concert with the award winning Kearsney Choir, four appearances at the FIFA World Cup fan parks, some schools education concerts and a month ago, they backed the extremely popular rock group the Parlotones at Joburg’s Montecasino at the start of their world tour.

Last Thursday night saw them merge with the Bochabela string ensemble from Bloemfontein performing a specially commissioned overture written by Roelof Temmingh as part of the KZNPO symphony series. These indicate the varied and interesting projects and performances that they have undertaken this year.

The Gala concert on October 9 will be the final concert for the year. Parents with children who are learning an orchestral instrument will find the concert most worthwhile.

Auditions for the KZNYO will take place on October 16 so any youngsters who are learning an instrument will be given the chance to audition for the KZNYO. Ensemble playing is very rewarding and teaches team work and creativity. Call 071 948 5763 to book an audition slot.

The gala concert takes place on October 9 at 19h30 in the Playhouse Drama. There will be no charge for admission but donations will be gratefully accepted. More information on 071 948 5763 or Bryan on 083 706 2696 or visit www.kznyo.co.za
