(Thabani Gapara)
The Centre for Jazz & Popular Music at the University of KwaZulu-Natal will present Sweet Concept on October 13.
The Sweet Concept band was formed in early 2006 and performs original music that stylistically aims to represent their influences and experiences. They also work on performing what may be called “the usual” jazz standards with a style that is originally their own. Sweet Concept band has an energetic youthful vibe that meets with the sophisticated approach of their very jazz based influence, while still maintaining a signature style that is truly South African.
Band members are Thabani Gapara (saxophone), Siyanqoba “Siya” Mthethwa (keyboards/piano), Bheka Mthethwa (electric bass), Siyanda Zulu (trumpet/flugal horn), and Sibusiso Zondi (drums).
Sweet Concept performs at the Centre for Jazz & Popular Music, UKZN on October 13 at 17h30 (doors open at 17h00). Tickets R25 (students R10). More information on 031 260 3385 or email: luthulia1@ukzn.ac.za
