Friends of Music are to present a four-hand duo recital on November 8 with internationally acclaimed pianists Laura Pauna (Romanian/SA) and James Redfern (England).
Laura Pauna has established herself internationally, both as a soloist and as a chamber musician. She has won numerous prizes: 1st prize in the Grieg Competition, “Prix de Oslo” in 2007 two pianos and again in 2009 piano 4 hands, to mention some of the few.
James Redfern has been described as a “born Beethoven player” and “an outstanding young pianist”. He was the winner of the first prize and special prizes such as the Chamber Music prize, and the Contemporary prize at the prestigious Franz Liszt Competition, Weimar in 2005.
The programme includes Liszt”s Dante Sonata performed by James Redfern and Khachaturian’s Sonata for piano performed by Laura Pauna. They will both perform the four-hander, Ravel’s Rhapsody Espagnole
In the Prelude Performer slot for the evening will be the Jazz Band from the Durban Music School
