THE SEVEN WONDERS

(Janine Cupido as Whitney Houston)

Next up at The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway is their year-end show, The Seven Wonders. This tribute to Elvis Presley, Bob Marley, Whitney Houston, Bryan Adams, Christina Aguilera, Chris de Burgh and Carlos Santana will be creating its own heat through summer, from October 9 until January.

The seven wonders of the ancient world are the most celebrated architectural achievements of classical antiquity. The number seven, has had a spiritual significance since ancient times - the seven seas, the seven voyages of Sinbad, the seven colours of the rainbow - and now there are the seven wonders of popular music.

Following the success of its prequels in The Big Five and Six of the Best, The Barnyard Theatre Productions has gone one better (and bigger) to celebrate the music of seven of the greatest pop icons of all time.

Featured on vocals are Lefa Pike (Bob Marley), JP Moggee (Elvis Presley), Lee Paver (Bryan Adams), Cassie De Beer (Christina Aguilera) and Janine Cupido (Whitney Houston). James Dobson will be on vocals (Chris de Burgh) and keyboards, while Andy Murray will be on vocals (Carlos Santana) and guitar. The rest of the band will be made of performers with Durban roots - Bongani Sokhela on bass guitar, Dylan van der Linde on drums and Kirsty Madgin on saxophone.

Experience what it would be like for Elvis Presley and Christina Aguilera to sing a duet together, Whitney Houston to croon with Bryan Adams, while Bob Marley keeps up the spirits with songs like One Love and Three Little Birds. Carlos Santana adds to the depth and mystery with songs like She’s Not There and Smooth, and Irishman Chris De Burgh brings his artistic flair with songs like A Spaceman Came Travelling, Don’t Pay The Ferryman and, of course, Lady In Red.

Also included in the show’s line-up of hits from these artists are Can’t Help Falling In Love, Heaven, I Will Always Love You, Jailhouse Rock, How Will I Know, Buffalo Soldier, I Wanna Dance With Somebody, Summer of 69 and Redemption Song.

The Seven Wonders runs from October 9 to January 6 at The Barnyard at Gateway. Tickets R145 pp Wednesday to Saturday (R110 pp every Tuesday night). Sunday is Family Day at The Barnyard, and tickets for the matinee shows are R90 pp.

To accommodate festive season revelry, additional lunch time shows (starting at 13h30) have been added on the following dates: November 28 and 30 as well as December 5, 6, 7, 12, 13 and 14.

The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway will also stage their popular Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve shows (despite them falling on Mondays). The Christmas Eve show (December 24) will be a matinee, at 14h00, at the regular cost of R145 pp. The New Year’s Eve show will start at 21h00, will feature an extra set and countdown into 2013 before a DJ takes over the dancefloor. Tickets for the show on December 31 will cost R340 pp.
