SICELO ZIQUBU NEW EXHIBITION

Opening this evening (April 21) at 18h30 at the KZNSA will be Sicelo Ziqubu's My Colourful Humble Endeavors Against Global Warming in the Park Gallery, and a public activation against the xenophobic violence that has once again erupted in Durban.

Ziqubu's exhibition is part of a three-leg national tour, supported by the National Arts Council of South Africa. It showcases his colourful signature style using found waste materials to create works that are multi -and sculptural. The artist serves to educate viewers on the impact of global warming, as he invites gallery visitors to join him on his 3R strategy - Reduce, Recycle & Reuse.

Thereafter, an installation will begin in the Arts Cafe, created from public contributions and personal effects that speak to displacement, solidarity and humanity. These concepts will then be interrogated in a panel discussion that explores how this tension informs the creative practice of artists.

“We encourage you to attend and bring along personal effects to create this live installation showing our solidarity with all those affected by the current unrest,” says the KZNSA. “We will also be collecting donations of non-perishable food and toiletry items for the Red Cross to assist refugees in camps, including bread, soup, disposable diapers, baby formula, hygiene packs, sanitary pads, towels, cardboard boxes and porridge. Please join us and speak out against xenophobia.”

The KZNSA Gallery is situated at 166 Bulwer Road, Glenwood, in Durban. More information on 031 277 1703, fax 031 201 8051 or cell 082 220 0368 or visit www.kznsagallery.co.za
