The Centre for Jazz
and Popular Music will present UKZN Graduate Siyanqoba Mthethwa on April 22.
This Joburg based musician
was born and raised in, Esikhawini KZN. He credits his dad, a pastor and former
choir master, for his passion for music.
Mthethwa is the
Musical Director and producer of the formidable gospel group Joyous
Celebration. He has also produced for Swazi Dlamini, Tshepo Mngoma, Khaya
Mthethwa, Brenda Mtambo, Sfiso Khanyile to name a few.
One of his main
career highlights includes playing for Kirk Franklin at the late Madiba’s
memorial service. He has also had the pleasure of working with the legendary
Themba Mkhize. He has appeared on national TV programmes such as I Want To Sing Gospel as musical
director and he’s appeared in other TV shows such as Afro Cafe, and One Gospel.
Mthethwa seeks to
pursue his solo career, writing music that streams from his background, which
includes gospel influences as well as jazz and African roots. He seeks to
showcase himself as a pianist and arranger as well in his repertoire.
The performance
takes place on April 22 at 18h00 at The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music
(CJPM) Level 2, Shepstone Building at UKZN Howard College Campus. Entry fee R50
