(Jerry Pooe at Wushwini)

Wushwini Arts, Culture and Heritage Centre, spearheaded by its founder, Jerry Pooe, will host a three-day programme which will focus on presentations of new theatre playreadings.

Celebrating New Works is a second annual reading festival which will run from the April 14 to16 2016 at Wushwini Art Centre, overlooking the scenic Inanda Dam in KwaZulu-Natal’s Valley of 1000 Hills.

On April 14, new works will be read and on April 15, the writers will re write their works based on the feedback received. Each writer will be allocated a mentor. On April 16 there will be a final reading, the audience will then choose the best script, that script will be given a full season in 2017 at Wushwini Theatre, and a potential for the works to be seen by other festival producers.

The Project’s aim is to identify potential new works for KZN Festivals and institutions, but most of all it is to Improve the quality of theatre from aspiring writers and directors. They will showcase their new works, by reading their scripts and followed by a discussion and feedback from the panel of writers, directors and more arts practitioners, also performers and audience members.
