The British Cultural and Heritage
Association (BCHA) is calling for aspirant orchestral musicians in the Durban
area to register with them if they would like to participate in the annual Massed
Orchestra event on Sunday, October 21, 2018.
All participants must be able to read and
play music. They are required to pay an entry fee of R60, and to register to
play either as individuals of as part of a group. Interested players can
contact Cheri Steenberg at BCHA office on 031 202 6174. Cheri will email a
registration form. On receipt of payment, she will email the music to
be performed.
Supported by Corobrik, BCHA’S Orchestra
2018 concert takes place at Penzance School, Nkulisa Conference Centre, 61
Penzance Road in Glenwood. This year’s massed ad hoc orchestra of prospective
players will perform under the seasoned baton of conductor Sue Cock.
As a curtain-raiser to the concert, which
starts at 14h30, Bryan Clark’s Caribbean Connection Steel Drum Band and the
Westville Girls High School Marimba Band will entertain the audience between 14h00
and 14h30.
The main concert opens with the South
African National Anthem. Eclectic titles to be heard on the bumper programme of
concert favourites include: the Strauss’s Radetsky
March; Anderson’s Syncopated Clock;
Coates’s Sleepy Lagoon; Fuck’s Entry of the Gladiators; an Abba medley;
Mango Groove’s Special Star; an
arrangement of the traditional song, Siyahamba;
Over the Rainbow; Offenbach’s Can-Can;
John Philip Sousa’s Stars and Stripes
Forever; and John William’s Star Wars
Main Theme.
Participants are encouraged to register
well in advance of the event, as they must be as conversant as possible with
the prescribed music to ensure that the concert will be an amazing experience
if everyone performs at their best, and delivers a successful team effort.
Audience tickets at R50 are available at
the door. Secure parking is available for participants and audiences members
alike. Seating is unreserved and tickets will be sold at the door.
The British Cultural and Heritage
Association offers sponsored tickets to several deserving organisations, who
greatly appreciate being part of this fun-filled afternoon.
