The popular South African operatic team
known as i Grandi Tenori (The Grand Tenors) have been invited to perform in
Singapore this month.
They will be the first black South African
artists after the celebrated Ladysmith Black Mambazo to present a concert in
this city.
I Grandi Tenori, who are not only dedicated
to offering world class performances but also to the mentoring and development
of young opera singers from rural schools, will also be holding a masterclass
for the music students of the School of Arts in Singapore.
Mr Ryan Goh Ming Feng CEO of the hosts, Ace
99 Cultural Pte Ltd, states that the main objective of this concert is to bring
elements of education, culture, music and the arts to the Singapore community.
At the same time, he said, they would like to promote international operatic/choral
groups such as i Grandi Tenori to different Singapore choral groups.
CEO of i Grandi Tenori, Kwazi Mhlongo, says
the group are very excited at the opportunity to expose South African talent to
the Asian Market. They will also be sharing the stage with Singaporean artists
and can’t wait to swop ideas of how to coach and assist potential opera stars
at school level.
The concert, which will be attended by
Singaporean dignitaries, RSA High Commissioner and the management of the School
of Arts, Singapore, as well as the public, will strengthen arts trade between
these two countries. Singapore is a top 5 state, with stable economy, and this
exchange of talent and education will be off great benefit to South Africa.
