Motown
Forever! is an exciting musical revue on the Tamla
Motown Recording Company founded by Berry Gordy Jr in 1956. The story of Motown
is a universally popular “rags to riches” story … not only for Gordy but also
for the artistes that he groomed. Artistes such as The Four Tops; The
Temptations; Stevie Wonder; Dianna Ross and the Supremes; The Jackson 5; Marvin
Gaye and many other Soul greats.
The revue is told from a South African
perspective and traces the trials and tribulations of Motown and its stars from
the 50’s until the emergence of Boyz 2 Men in the early 90’s. Tyrone King is a
welder from the “bruin oue” district of Wentworth. From a jail cell in Westville
Prison he reminisces on the positive effects of Motown on his life from
adolescence to the present day. The Motown story is interwoven into this
typical South African story. Motown is Tyrone’s fantasy and the “soul food”
that keeps him sane.
The revue is narrated, devised and directed
by Hamish Kyd and stars Arnie Field with Diego Da Costa, Leveen Kyd, Josh
Philander and Kerry Williams.
In order to get teenagers actively involved
in musical theatre, The Supremes and Jackson 5 Scenes will be performed by
teenagers from each area where the show will be performed. These teenagers will
be auditioned and trained by Field and Kyd.
“Motown
Forever! will be presented with original comedy,
stylish and colourful period costumes that blend with the scintillating
choreography, melodious singing and “hair raising” harmonisation. After all … this
is the formula that insures that Motown will live forever!,” says Kyd.
Tickets are R100 at the door and the show
is a fundraiser for the entire Family. Motown
