Great entertainment line-up at the Pavilion Shopping Centre in Westville from September 6 to September 8, 2024.
A carefully curated line up of quality live music in a variety of genres, and engaging family entertainment will be a major attraction at the Durban Street Food Festival - a weekend long celebration of Durban’s culinary heritage; craft …. and music…. to be hosted at the Pavilion Shopping Centre on Friday 6, Saturday 7 and Sunday September 8.
A range of food merchants will have stands at the festival selling a range of unusual globally-inspired urban food options to honour Heritage month. Complementing the great food will be a range of family-friendly entertainment options. There will be a really great musical line-up throughout the weekend.
Warming up the crowd on Friday at 17h00, will be a lively percussive set with Bryan’s Percussion Marimba Band serving up infectious African rhythms. This is followed by the KZN Youth Orchestra – 80 or so talented young classical musicians, aged between 12 and 22 from across KZN who play a wide range of classical, contemporary and African music. The 40-year-old orchestra is affiliated to the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra and is led by Lykele Temmingh and Cathy Peacock. They will be on stage at 18h00 on Friday.
Durban hard rock, punk rock, RnB, and pop band Wah Wah Baby will be on stage at 19h00 on Friday night. Their repertoire is known for their fresh arrangements of global Billboard Hits such as Anaconda (Niki Minaj), Ain’t No Sunshine (Bill Whithers), Seven Nation Army (The White Stripes), and Come Together (The Beatles).
Freddy L is an alternative three-piece group based in Durban / Cape Town, that balances pop and rock influences with an Afro-indie-soul vibe, and endemic South African singer-songwriter sensibilities. Originally a solo act founded by lead singer Ntutuko (Freddy) Lalendle, it now features Reece Berkeley (drums and production) and Niclaus Duvenhage (bass and production). They are on stage Saturday at 13h00.
One of the KZN Youth Orchestra’s alumnus is classical violinist Jane Magner, who together with Liam Magner are Veranda Panda. This proudly Durban creative duo have been active since 2010. Jane plays electric violin, and Liam makes use of samplers and effects pads during the set. Much of their music is their own production, bootleg or remix. They will be performing at 14h00 on Saturday.
Regular collaborators, Tim Lewis, established saxophonist, pianist and producer and Matt Davies, pianist, guitarist and singer, will be on stage together on Saturday at 15h00. Heavily influenced by the 60s era, their soulful funky / house / pop songs draw inspiration from personal life experiences

Rocc Lobsters AKA Evan Williams, Jordan Mangoss, Yaseen Margro and Dylan Mangoss - a reggae / blues influenced band from Durban with a lively stage presence and an air of improvisation, who play an original set and sometimes a few covers will be onstage Saturday at 16h00.
Saturday at 17h00, the live music takes a break for punters to enjoy live streaming of the massive Springboks vs All-Blacks Game on the big screen on the main stage and (for adults) in the Beer Garden. Gates open at 11h00 for the pre-party event followed by the biggest Street Feast After Party.
Proudly South African punk, R&B, electronic pop duo Easy Freak take to the stage at 19h00 on Saturday evening. Dom Hurd and Jude Kenrick share a love of jazz and studied together at UKZN Jazz Dept and these days are based in Jozi. The duo write and produce all their songs themselves, and describe their music as very personal, chronicling their life journey, and reflecting on love and relationships.
The live music will be followed by DJs to keep diners entertained throughout the evening.
There will be a sip-and-paint area; a mini-market with wares made by local crafters, designers and micro-entrepreneurs; there will be a family-focus with kids’ activities, food options for young tummies and jumping castles; there will be a daily silent disco for some fun exercise.
“Come Hungry to feast, dance and enjoy time with friends and family,” urges event organiser, Georgis Kretsos.
Tickets can be purchased in advance through Quicket, or at the door on the day. The festival runs from Friday September 6 at 17h00 until 20h00; Saturday September 7 at 11h00 until 20h00 and Sunday 11h00 until 20h00. Follow the event on social media platforms for more information.
