DENIS HURLEY CENTRE STREET LIT BOOK DRIVE

Independent Newspapers has once again put its weight behind assisting the Denis Hurley Centre Street Lit booksellers by collecting books for their vendors for Mandela month.

The editor wants to help top up the book stock again this year so are calling on staff, readers and supporters to donate fabulous, quality, good-condition books to the project over the next few weeks. Of special interest are best sellers, good novels, children’s and self-help books.

Books can be dropped off at various drop off points over the next month:

St John Ambulance and Eye Care – 129 KE Masinga / Old Fort Rd on Mon, Wed and Fri mornings from 8.30am until 11am.

BEREA: Musgrave Methodist Church, 237 Musgrave Rd / Enter through St Thomas Rd – mornings only

Street Lit Books

The Denis Hurley Centre is a proactive NGO based in Durban which cares for the city’s poor and marginalised. One of their flagship entrepreneurship projects is Street Lit which helps a team of homeless and formerly homeless rehabilitated men and women earn a basic income from selling good second-hand donated books at venues around town.

We are looking for places to sell our fabulous books. If you have a safe, legal, busy, public place for one of our vendors to sell books, please let us know! Also – if you have fabulous second-hand books to donate– we would love to hear from you!

We work out of St John Ambulance and Eye Care in 129 KE Masinga Rd / Old Fort Rd and we are there Mon, Wed and Fridays from 08h00 until 10h00. Feel free to drop them off with us then. If you phone ahead, we can be there to help you unload – 083 326 3234.
