The Centre for Creative Arts at the University of KwaZulu-Natal
had the prestigious honour of being the first South African institution to
present Masterclasses in theatre-making by the recently-established John Kani Performing Arts Academy (JKA).
The three-day free Masterclass programme involved the globally-celebrated icons, Dr John Kani (Acting) and Professor Zanemvula Kizito Gatyeni Mda aka Zakes Mda (Writing); and Durban’s own multi-award-winning director Steven Stead of Kickstart Theatre Productions fame (Directing)
The three-day KZN Masterclass Programme in acting, writing
and directing presented from September 29 to October 1 2025 was open to a
limited number of artists in order to ensure that the participants received the
maximum benefit from the Masterclasses.
The KZN Masterclass Programme was made possible by an Incubation grant from the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture
(Fifteen people maximum per class).
