25th Anniversary Concert of the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra to revisit the venue of its inaugural concert.
The 25th Anniversary Concert of the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra will take place at the venue and on the stage of their inaugural concert on October 22, the actual day of their first concert 25 years ago, in the Pietermaritzburg City Hall.
American Maestro Dr Leslie B. Dunner will conduct a programme that features soloists Hanli Stapela (soprano), Violina Anguelov (mezzo-soprano), Musa Nkuna (tenor) and Fikile Mvinjelwa (baritone) as well as the Drakensberg Boys’ Choir, Durban Chamber Choir and Clermont Community Choir.
Works include J S Bach’s Orchestral Suite No. 3 and Beethoven’s Symphony No 9 Choral.
Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony has marked many auspicious occasions over the years, including various openings of the Olympic Games and the fall of the Berlin Wall. Enlisted for its universal and hopeful message, it is a powerful and deeply engaging masterpiece that has been fittingly selected for the anniversary celebrations. Incorporating Friederich Schiller’s Ode To Joy, it is a work of gran scope.
The concert takes place in the Pietermaritzburg Concert City Hall at 19h30. There is plenty of safe and secure parking around the City Hall precinct and in the City Hall parking. For more information and ticket bookings contact Pearl on 033 342 4512.
