Popular pianist Christopher Duigan to perform two private soirees in Durban.
Hailed recently as a 'South African Piano Icon', Christopher Duigan will perform for two private soirees in Durban. Presented in the home of Sue Clarence, Hilton Arts Festival director and local theatre producer, the evening will allow audiences to enjoy an outstanding musical performance in an intimate and convivial home environment. The venue is one of Durban's contemporary architectural landmarks in Manor Gardens, near UKZN.
Well-known for his innovative and exploratory programming, concert pianist Christopher Duigan plays a grand piano in Play, Piano Play! - a programme of selected classics focusing on popular music from around the world.
Featuring music that enjoys popular public appeal and is seldom heard in performance, this pianistic bonanza with a contemporary cross cultural slant, makes the piano sing, dance and jump! Included are Gershwin's transcription of My One and Only, JS Bach’s Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring, Manuel de Falla's Ritual Fire Dance, Scott Joplin's Elite Syncopations, South American tangos by Brazilian Ernesto Nazareth and Argentina's Astor Piazzolla plus contemporary film music by Richard Guiness and Yann Tiersen. These rub shoulders with brilliant virtuoso concert pieces by Frederic Chopin and Moritz Moskowski.
His recital follows recent performances at St Agnes Church in Kloof and a sell-out performance at the Howard College Theatre in Durban. He will be performing in Cape Town at the Baxter Theatre later in March.
Christopher Duigan plays a new 7ft KAWAI grand piano sponsored by KAWAI Piano Studio, KZN.
The soirees take place on March 10 and 11 at 19h00 for 19h30. Tickets R100 include a glass of wine on arrival and coffee.
