NEW CONNECTIONS

Exhibition of work from newly-formed department of Fine Art and Jewellery Design at DUT.

The newly-formed department of Fine Art and Jewellery Design at the Durban University of Technology is composed of some of South Africa’s key artists and designers.

An exhibition titled New Connections which opens at the KZNSA Gallery on March 10 offers an opportunity to view the recent creative outputs the department’s staff members. These include Andries Botha, Chris de Beer, John Roome, Hennie Stroebel, Bonginkosi Tshabalala, Bronwyn Vaughan Evans, Brenton Maart, Barry Truter, Marlene de Beer, Jan Jordaan, Nirmi Ziegler, Royal Gwala, Nkosinathi Khanyile, Themba Shibase, Greg Bye, Samantha Vincent, Greg Streak and Tony Starkey.

The work on show reflects conceptual rigour, social awareness, craftsmanship and unique attitudes in response to contemporary issues using technical approaches ranging from installation, through hand papermaking to digital drawing.

New Connections runs at the KZNSA Gallery in Bulwer Road on March 10 at 18h00 when the keynote address will be given by Dr Kenneth Netshiombo, Executive Dean, Faculty of Arts and design at DUT.
