SAUDIQ KHAN AND FRIENDS

Cape Town based flamenco guitar virtuoso for Catalina Theatre.

Cape Town-based flamenco guitar virtuoso Saudiq Khan will perform in a unique Hispanic collaboration for one weekend only at the Catalina Theatre in Wilson’s Wharf from March 5.

Guitar fans will recall his previous Durban season when he performed in the successful Nocha De La Guitarra, which was a unique fusion with classical guitarist James Grace.

Saudiq Khan hails from Cape Town, and was inspired by Flamenco guitar music at an early age. He studied the guitar locally and in 1989 had the opportunity to travel to Spain to experience the true culture in the heart of the aficionados. On his return to South Africa, he became involved with various Spanish Bands and Flamenco dance groups performing all over the country, becoming well known for his fiery Flamenco touch.

To promote Flamenco Guitar, he started his own Flamenco Guitar School in 1992 playing amongst local enthusiasts. Great guitarists like Paco de Lucia, Rafael Riqueni and Carlos Bonell complimented the inspiration in Saudiq’s Flamenco world.

Saudiq Khan is considered a flamenco powerhouse as his strength and dexterity on the Spanish guitar has earned him a growing reputation throughout South Africa. He heads Casta Alma, which consists of six highly accomplished local instrumentalists with international experience.

Saudiq Khan and Friends runs at Catalina Theatre from March 5 to 8 with shoes from Thursday to Saturday at 20h00 and Sunday at 18h00. For more information or to book, contact the Catalina Theatre on 031 305 6889.
