KZN ceramist Lynette Morris-Hale is to do a PowerPoint presentation/Talk on Confrontational Ceramics as part of the programme of workshops/talks/lectures in the forthcoming Clay Festival ’09 to be staged by the Gauteng Region of Ceramics Southern Africa (formerly the Association of Potters of SA) in Johannesburg from May 16 to 17.
Ongoing Raku firings will be run by Elsbeth Burkhalter and Dineke den Bakker on the Saturday morning and Marentia Kooiman and Querardien van Vliet on the Saturday afternoon. Sunday will see a Celebration of Fire & Smoke with Elsbeth Burkhalter and Michelle Legg.
The workshop programme in which Lynette Morris-Hale appears includes presentations by the three 2008 Corobrik National Ceramics Exhibition award winners – Nikki Swanepoel (Gauteng: Illustrated talk/discussion - Corobrik Premier Award); Ralph Johnson (Western Cape: The Creative Impulse) and John Shirley (Gauteng: Bone China and Soluble Salts - Corobrik Merit Awards). Other artists are Deon de Lange (Finding Inspiration/Talk & Practical workshop), Peter Mthombeni (Mould Making), Sandra Goercke (Handwork), well known sculptor Anton Smit (Claybrick Sculptures), Drury Brandt (Slabwork) and Elza van Dijk (Paperclay).
There will be an exhibition of the workshop presenters’ work where the exhibits will be for sale.
Many suppliers will be represented in the Trade Hall with the latest information on clays, glazes, kilns, wheels, art clay silver, bronze and the launch of copper clay, books, a raffle and much, much more! There will also be much fun, demonstrations and interesting activities which will include regular demonstrations of throwing on the wheel and demonstrating techniques by well-known artists. Children will also be catered for while parents attend workshops or visit the trade hall.
A delicious array of homemade goodies, salads and refreshments will be available to enjoy in the tea garden. Superb bottled products will also be on sale.
This premier Clay Festival will be held at the Berario Recreation Centre, cor Dolores Avenue & King Street, Berario, Johannesburg on May 16 and 17 with no entrance fee and members of the public are very welcome. There is secure parking on the premises. Interested ceramic artists are invited to participate in this event which is the biggest of its kind on the South African ceramic calendar. New members joining at Clay Festival will receive a 10% discount on their first membership fee.
