Collection of works by prominent black South African artists to be auctioned on May 5.
On May 5, Dales Bros Auctioneers is to auction a collection of works by prominent black South African artists contemporary and past and some of South African masters.
Among the works to be auctioned is an oil by Ephraim Ngatane titled Gum Boot Dancers on board, signed and dated '65, 55x75cm, estimated value between R300,000 and R500,000.
“The Ngatane painting which is an absolute beauty,” says Murray Dales. “This painting has literally been standing behind a wardrobe for the past 20 years and was purchased from an Ngatane Exhibition in the Transvaal c1966. We also have a lovely Terence McCaw oil painting of the Malay Quarters, 55 x 45cm signed and dated '75.”
Other works and paintings on auction on May 5 includes works by Hennie Niemann, Sydney Carter, Christo Coetzee, Frans Claerhout, Willie Bester, Edward Roworth, Otto Klar, Norman Catherine, Solomon Siko, Sokhaya Nkosi, Eric Lubisi, Fikile Magadlela, Selwyn Pekeur, Karen Fortune, Johan Oldert, Kobus Louw and others.
