Workshop to take place at fortnightly film event held by the Durban Youth in Film Society.
The Durban Youth in Film Society and the KZNSA hosts Cinema Thursday, a fortnightly film event, at the gallery at 166 Bulwer Road, Glenwood at 18h00 sharp.
On May 21 at 18h00, the Durban Youth in Film Society and the KZNSA Gallery will host a workshop on how Durban filmmakers and production companies can best position themselves to take advantage of the tax rebates and other schemes available for international companies wishing to shoot in South Africa.
This workshop will feature South African filmmaker Richard Green who is currently line producing a film with American director Miles Roston in KwaZulu-Natal. These two filmmakers will be in conversation about the joys and pains of international co-production, ways to find international co-productions, expectations international filmmakers have of South African co-production partners and how to position film-makers and production companies as the best partner for an international co-production. Joining them in this discussion will be acting CEO at the Durban Film Office, Toni Monty who has considerable experience facilitating international film production in Durban.
This workshop is of particular relevance as the Durban International Film Festival comes around soon. It also offers a platform for many Durban filmmakers to make connections with international filmmakers. Knowing what to expect and what to do, will ensure that those chance meetings do not become wasted opportunities.
The workshop will run from 18h00 to 21h00 on May 21. For more information, email tmungwe@gmail.com
