Paintings by Diane Erasmus on show at The Anton Benzon @ Crouse Art Gallery.
South Coast painter Diane Erasmus presents her second solo exhibition at the spacious Anton Benzon @ Crouse Art Gallery in Morningside. The exhibition is entitled The Sky’s the Limit.
“The sky is the limit reminds us that the process of learning is never ending. We never actually get to a point where there is not something more to experience,” explains Erasmus.
The title takes on a literal response as well. Erasmus works from a quaint Ramsgate studio which she shares with artist and Crouse Gallery muse Anton Benzon. Renovations to the studio has meant that their work space is now elevated and has an expansive view of the ocean. Erasmus spends times drawing the skies from her window – particularly at sunrise and sunset. She describes the space as her “studio in the sky”.
Erasmus has been experimenting with huge vistas of skies – both literal and interpretative - a selection of which will are display in this exhibition.
As well as her skyscapes, Erasmus favours moody seascapes and emotive landscapes. She is known for her series of florals, Namaqualand scapes and Drakensberg vistas. She works in oils and acrylics. Her work boasts an extraordinary sense of light and surprising palette of colours in impressionist-inspired textured paintings.
The Crouse Gallery is situated at 254 Lillian Ngoyi (Windermere Road) in Morningside, Durban. More information on 031 312 2315 or visit www.artdealers.co.za
