LIPSTICK AND LOVESONGS

Popular Pietermaritzburg group back at the Hexagon with entertaining show.

They're back! The group that brought hit shows to the Hexagon in Pietermaritzburg such as The Sound of Movies, Oh What a Night!, Rock, Rattle 'n Roll and Yesterday Once More are back with their latest show, Lipstick And Lovesongs. This time they pay tribute to songs made famous by women.

Remembering famous girl groups like the Shirelles, The Supremes and The Chordettes, they go on to the divas who presented numbers like Down Town, Leader of the Pack, I Say a Little Prayer, It's My Party, Big Spenderand other famous hits. The show span decades of women's hits from the Fifties through to the Eighties, with special tribute being paid to those divas who have become singing legends, such as Streisand, Piaf, Minnelli, Simoneand Midler. Golden Oldies such as My Boyfriend's Back, One Fine Day, Baby Love and La Vie en Rose will bring a nostalgic tear to the eye of many an audience member.

Accompanied by musical maestro Justin Southey, last seen in Cabaret who has done the arrangements, and local muso and band leader Ryan Calder on drums, the extra strong cast consists of Sandra Styles (mainstay of many a Dive tribute show), Caitlin Kilburn (a smash hit as Sally Bowles in last year's Cabaret), Tammy Calder (last seen in The Sound of Movies and The Better Days Show) and Erin Fourie (a regular singer at many local watering holes, as well as shows such as Godspell and s'Wonderful). And special guest artist at this show is the inimitable Veronica Baxter, whose legendary voice will be heard for the last time before she leaves Pietermaritzburg. The show is directed by Peter Mitchell, veteran director of numerous musicals.
