The Ranks to play at Pietermaritzburg live music venue on July 7.
On July 7, the Maritzburg Musicians Club will host a local favourite Indie band, The Ranks, to The Red Door! Recognising the group’s significant following among younger Maritzburg audiences, the MMC decided to showcase The Ranks during the holidays when there would be a large contingent of students in town.
Having emerged victorious in the 5FM demo bag competition in late 2008, power indie band The Ranks has gone from small-town dreamers to one of South Africa’s most exciting up-and-coming bands. The band has toured some of South Africa’s major cities and received accolades from the likes of Prime Circle, after lead singer Ross Learmoth said: “You can be very proud of them coming from ‘Maritzburg... I’m sure we’re gonna see a lot from them in the future.”
A devoutly Christian band, The Ranks was formed in late 2007 comprises Matt Jones (bass) Brett Jones (drums) and Neil du Plessis (guitar/vocals). The three-piece plans to release their first music video soon and focus on entertaining local audiences before heading over to Europe and becoming an international success. Having worked with Grammy award-winning producer Darryl Torr, The Ranks is very near to releasing their debut EP which includes stand out tracks like A is for Ambulance and Adelaide.
Supporting The Ranks will be singer / songwriter Christo Loots. The music starts at 20h15 and admission is R20. For more details and info visit www.pmbmusicclub.co.za
