Trip down memory lane at Barnyard Theatre.
The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway takes audiences on a trip down memory lane, across two decades, when it tunes in and presents LM Radio until August 30.
Remember the famous LM Radio jingle: “This is Lourenço Marques, for non-stop happy listening…”?
The Barnyard Theatre Productions proudly presents their latest offering - LM Radio, a true ‘radio station show’ dedicated to LM Radio. It is presented by the East Coast’s own Dave Guselli who trades in his East Coast Radio microphone to play the role of LM Radio’s resident DJ, introducing hits brought to life by a nine–piece live band and singers. This talented cast takes the audience on a nostalgic trip featuring LM Radio hits from the 60’s and 70’s, news broadcasts, jingles and programme announcements.
LM Radio was known for its up-to-date Top Twenty music programmes, variety and request shows. No news broadcast was ever done on this station – it broadcast only non-stop 24-hour-a-day hits. The show features countless hits from the late sixties and seventies that were listed on the renowned Top Twenty chart show called the LM Hit Parade, with a few surprises and rockers!
Remember the bubblegum pop hits from the late sixties and early seventies? Well, you’re sure to hear songs like Tie A Yellow Ribbon Around The Old Oak Tree, Beautiful Sunday, Yellow River, Simon Says, Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep and Sunglasses! The show also includes all-time favourites like The Beatles, Tina Turner, Cher, Tom Jones, The Bee Gees, Eric Clapton and also a feature to Glam Rock featuring music from Slade, The Sweet and South African’s own seventies pop sensation, Rabbit.
LM Radio closed in 1975 when Mozambique gained its independence from Portugal, and in the same year the SABC launched a replacement radio station – Radio 5. This became 5fm, which is still hugely popular today, although it’s a far cry from the happy memories and non-stop hits of LM Radio in its heyday.
To this day, many South Africans fondly recall the days of happy LM listening, so get ready for the nostalgic party of all time that will make you laugh, cry and remember the good old days of LM Radio!
Presenting the music of LM Radio will be vocalists Kieran Rennie, Craig Kallis, Lizaan Vermeulen and Tracy-Lee Oliver. The band will consist of Joe van der Linden (guitar), Calli Thomson (keyboards), Nico Badenhorst (bass guitar), Brian Fraser (drums) and Kirsty Madgin (saxophone).
