ROCK ON! BEETHOVEN

(Pic: Roelof Colyn back in Beethoven mode at Barnyard at Gateway.)

Beethoven is rocking into 2010 at The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway to run over the festive season until January 10.

The Barnyard welcomes back Ludwig von Beethoven, king of the classics and the man who gave them the greatest party ever, Roll Over Beethoven, for its sequel. He’s is about to be ejected from heaven for misbehaviour, so audiences should be prepared for a wild trip!

As the original party animal, Beethoven is now searching for exactly the right place and partners to make magic entertainment – will it be with all the new rock chicks on the block singing I Kissed A Girl and Hot And Cold? Will it be the unforgettable music of Michael Jackson giving him a Thriller or making him Beat It? Will he get arrested for unlikely reggae behaviour with the Police, or will he be just Another Brick In the Wall with Pink Floyd? Because Beethoven is looking for the perfect mix to earn his place back in paradise.

After the success of their collaboration on Roll Over Beethoven, Rock Me Amadeus, Glory Days, Broadway Rocks and Hollywood Rocks, ROCK ON! Beethoven again brings together the combined talents of Duck Chowles (The Barnyard’s resident dictionary of rock ‘n roll) and Ian von Memerty (of theatre and television fame) who directed and scripted the show.

The role of Beethoven is taken by the inimitable Roelof Coelyn who also happens to be one of the country’s finest piano performers, so festive season patrons can look forward to phenomenal pianistic pyrotechnics as well. Roelof will be joined by three red hot singers in Percy Smith, Felicity Kiran and Stephan Nel, as well as a band that is rock solid. The band consists of Regardt de Bruin (on guitar), Arno van der Westhuizen (keyboards), Mark Freel (bass guitar), PW van der Walt (drums), Kirsty Madgin (saxophone) and Jane Baillie (violin).

To accommodate festive season revelry, additional lunch time shows have been added on the following dates: November 25 and 27 as well as December 2, 4, 9, 11 and 15. The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway will also be staging their ever-popular Christmas and New Year’s Eve shows with further information and details available from the venue.
