A nostalgic riverside festive season celebration.
Take a trip down memory lane. Durban’s renowned Irish group, The Blarney Brothers, are back by popular demand this festive season at The Riverside Hotel’s Conference Centre, formerly known as ‘The Barn’ at the old Athlone Hotel in Durban North where they performed for many years. The legendary three-man group will offer their unique brand of music, including Irish ballads, foot-tapping pub songs, popular ‘newies’ and even the occasional Irish jig.
Comprising three of South Africa’s best loved musicians, Paul and Damien McIlroy and Tony Fisher, The Blarney Brothers established themselves playing "The Barn" at Durban’s former Athlone Hotel every Wednesday and Friday for 13 years. Since finishing there in 1991, they have toured widely, performing internationally with great success in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Macau, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Australia and the UK.
Says Blarney Brothers band leader, Paul McIlroy: “Following the overwhelming demand for tickets we experienced last year we are happy to return to our old stomping ground this season, as ‘The Barn’ was our ‘home from home’ for so many years”.
While fans will need no introduction to the group, new recruits to The Blarney Brothers’ unique brand of music-making can log onto www.blarneybrothers.co.za for full details about their rich performance history, as well as the titles of their CD’s, and other information.
The Blarney Brothers will perform at The Riverside Hotel’s Conference Centre from December 22 to January 10 with performances starting at 20h00. Tickets R70 for this not-to-be-missed musical reunion available at Riverside Hotel reception (call 031 563 0600) or at the door.
