MADAME ROUGE

Breakfast @ 7’s cabaret for short run at Hexagon in Pietermaritzburg.

The Hexagon Theatre Dive situated on the Pietermaritzburg campus of the University of KwaZulu-Natal will present Breakfast @ 7’s cabaret Madame Rouge.

The show is loosely based on the history of one of France’s oldest and most famous (perhaps “infamous”?) night spots, renowned for its red windmill and infamous for giving birth to the erotic can can, which caught the imagination of many a movie maker. It was also frequented by misfits and Bohemians such as the artist Toulouse Lautrec and the very rich who enjoyed “slumming it” with the very poor.

Centrefold invite patrons to follow the history of the Madame Rouge from its early days as a bordello to current day where it has achieved legitimacy as a nightclub hosting international artists like Frank Sinatra and Edith Piaf. The cabaret evening will include songs such as Lady Marmalade, Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend, Your Song and Rhythm of the Night. Also in the line-up are All That Jazz, Fever, Patricia the Stripper, Black Magic Woman and many more.

Performances December 5, 10 and 11 at 19h00 for 19h30 and December 6 at 17h30 for 18h00. Tickets R70pp and tables seat 10. Take along a picnic basket but no drinks as there is a cash bar. Bookings on 033 260 5537 or email: hexagon@ukzn.ac.za
