UKZN MUSIC CONCERTS

Events taking place at the Howard College campus on March 4.

Music events taking place at the Howard College Campus of the University of KwaZulu-Natal on March 4 include a lecture and a Masterclass.

On March 4, a Traditional Japanese Theatre Video Lecture forms part of the On the Off Beat seminar series taking place in the Bongani Mthethwa Room at the School of Music at 16h00. The DVD Presentation introduces Gagaku, Noh, Bunraku and Kabuki by Dr. Michilo Hirama. Using audio-visual examples, this lecture aims to introduce to South African audiences Japanese traditional music and theatrical performances containing music. The lecture gives a broad and fascinating overview of these four art forms and how Japanese society has developed over the last 1300 years.

Prof. Barbara Hill Moore is a renowned performer, a Meadows Foundation Distinguished Professor of Voice at the Southern Methodist University in Dalla, TX, and a distinguished artist faculty member at the annual Amalfi Coast Music Festival (Italy). She will conduct a Masterclass with UKZN OSCA Students in Howard College Theatre on March 4 from 10h30 to 13h30.

Entrance to both events is free and open to the public. More information from Mandy Wilken, UKZN School of Music concert organiser, on 031 260 3353 or email: wilkenm@ukzn.ac.za
