Festival of short plays for Hexagon Studio Theatre in Pietermaritzburg.
The Drama and Performance Studies of the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg, will present a festival of short plays directed by Post-graduate directors, entitled New Directions.
Joslyn Cox directs Eugene Ionesco's The Shepherd's Chameleon, an absurd take on theatricality and comical costumes, the theatre critic and the plight of the writer. In Principal Blueberry Cheesecake, written and directed by Ryan Mayne, two characters take audiences along the corridor of life on a round trip adventure, discussing time, death and the futility of communication.
The classical production Medea, written by Euripides, and directed by Sarah Myburg, is a troubling tale full of betrayal, hatred and vengeance. It reminds us all that 'hell hath no fury like a woman scorned'.
’If our Bodies could talk what would they say?’ … V-Day is taken from a piece by Eve Ensler and directed by Nomfundo Mzolo. It explores a woman’s most prized possession, one that is seldom if ever spoken about. Stories of growth, discovery, hurt and self pride are shared. This is a witty, daring and insightful script for an adult audience.
New Directions takes place at The Hexagon Studio Theatre from April 13 to 16 at 17h30. Tickets R20 at the door. The Shepherd's Chameleon and V-Day takes place on Tuesday and Thursday with Principal Blueberry Cheesecake and Medea being held on Wednesday and Friday:
