Heritage celebrates its fifth birthday with hit show by guitar maestro Barry Thomson.
The Heritage Theatre celebrates its fifth birthday this month with A Taste of Thomson, the hit show by guitar maestro Barry Thomson who has been so instrumental in the venue’s success. Thomson takes centre stage from April 13 to May 2 in a salute to artists who have had a direct influence on his life – musically and personally.
To celebrate the venue’s 5th birthday, patrons are being offered an extra special deal of a three-course meal and show for only R150 (the same price as five years ago!) on April 13, 14 and 15.
In a Taste of Thomson IV, Barry teams with musical director Dawn Selby (keyboards, Hammond organ and vocals), Mali Sewell (drums) and Jason Andrew (bass guitar) to showcase the music of a wide range of unforgettable artists.
“It’s an intimate show,” says Barry. “I have chosen songs that are instantly recognisable hits and some that are not … but they all have musical or lyrical worth. The audience, hopefully, gets a chance to know a little more about me.”
Barry’s musical menu includes Pink Floyd, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Led Zeppelin, Gary Moore, Dire Straits, Jethro Tull., Deep Purple and Jimi Hendrix. The show also features an acoustic segment with some of Barry’s original songs including Take It in My Stride and Walk a Mile. The show introduces a young and talented guitarist, Jason Bottomley, a matric pupil at Westville Boy’s High School. He is looking forward to his debut with a professional band, paying tribute to Joe Satriani, John Mayer and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Taste of Thomson IV runs from April 13 to May 2. Tickets which include a two-course meal are R150 (April 13 to 15) and thereafter R165 Tuesday dinner (19h00) and Sunday lunch (12h30) and R190 Wednesday to Saturday (19h00).
