Celebrate at the Durban Botanic Gardens with the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra.
Old Mutual and East Coast Radio Durban’s No 1 offers a celebration of Mothers Day with the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra on May 9 in the Durban Botanic Gardens.
The orchestra has been performing at these outdoor concerts for many years and offers citizens a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the sounds of a magnificent 60-piece orchestra presenting a mix of light classics and contemporary music. Under the baton of Naum Rousine the orchestra will open the concert with the Festive Overture by Shostakovich and music by Chopin, Khachaturian and Puccini offer reminders of grand occasions from yesteryear.
Well-known and popular soloists will be Melanie Roberts and Barry Thompson will present a mix of popular contemporary tunes in their selection of songs from the shows. Barry Thomson is also a highly skilled guitarist and he has selected numbers such as Goin’ Home by Sultans of Swing and You’ll be in my Heart from Tarzan. Melanie Roberts will sing Summertime from Gershwin’s Porgy & Bess and the title track from the film and stage show Cabaret.
There are some great prizes to be won and children are always welcome and parents can relax and enjoy the family outing while the children are entertained and kept busy during the concert in the Kids Zone.
Gates open at 12h30 on May 9 and the concert begins at 14h30. It is advisable to purchase tickets early and then pack a delicious picnic and spoil the whole family on the day itself.
Early bird ticket price for adults is R80 (R100 on concert day) and R20 for children 6 to 12 booked through www.webtickets.co.za or buy tickets from the Info Centre in the Durban Botanic Gardens (open seven days /week).
Special concession ticket prices are available for Members of the Friends of the Durban Botanic Gardens and senior citizens at R70 per person. Members of the Friends are requested to present their current membership card to enjoy this special offer. These tickets can only be purchased at the Info Centre in the Gardens or at the ticket tables on the day of the concert.
Secure parking is available on the Juventus ground off lower St Thomas Road, adjacent to the Botanic Gardens and the Munies Hockey Field off lower Sydenham Road.
