SIMILAR PATHWAYS

( Pic by Val Adamson: S'fiso Magesh Ngcobo and Sifiso Kitsona Khumalo)

Similar Pathways is a deeply moving dance theatre work, being a duet created and choreographed by S'fiso Magesh Ngcobo for himself and long-time dancing colleague Sifiso Kitsona Khumalo. Both dancers met originally in 2004 where they formed part of the now historic and famous African Footprints. After touring together for over a year, they returned to Durban and both joined Flatfoot Dance Company where they are now seasoned professional dancers and dance educators. S'fiso Magesh Ngcobo steps out on his own in this production, hoping to follow on from his solo 2008 season called Magesh: Rural to Urban.

Working in the confines of the Square Space Theatre, Similar Pathways explores the intense similarities that we have as human beings. Facing joy, sadness, pain, sorrow and the rising and falling that seems to make up part of our journey, this dance work offers two of Durban's finest male dancers giving the audience a glimpse into another vulnerable part of themselves. As Magesh has said, "one way or another, our life paths land up being similar though we might not feel like we are going in the same direction". The production promises to offer beautifully crafted and powerful dance theatre.

Presented by Goosh Magesh Productions, Similar Pathways runs in the Square Space Theatre at the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Howard College campus from May 19 to 21 at 18h30 with a matinee on May 21 at 1215). The running time is 40 minutes Tickets R40 (R20 student/scholar/pensioner) booked through Clare Craighead on 082 875 6065.
