You’re invited to become an author - Cape Town Book Fair launches story project on Facebook
The Cape Town Book Fair is jointly owned by the Frankfurt Book Fair and the Publishers Association of South Africa. Would-be authors can join the Cape Town Book Fair story project on the CTBF Facebook page and contribute to a story that will be read at the event.
The Cape Town Book Fair is all about books, and books are mostly about stories. So join in writing a story with the most authors the CTBF can gather together. It’s called Where the story begins … and that will be the first line. Thereafter, any member of the Cape Town Book Fair Facebook Group can add a single sentence to it, while the original author is welcome to go back and add more as the story progresses. However, the Cape Town Book Fair reserves the right to remove any entries that are offensive, racist or libellous.
“In other words we’re all for freedom of speech, but not for breaking laws”, say the organisers. Copywrite of the story rests with the CTBF. The story ends on July 30 - the day that the Cape Town Book Fair starts - and will be read out during the CTBF.
“This year there are many innovations at the Fair, the opening day on 30 July is a trade day with a full programme,” says Director of the CTBF Claudia Kaiser. “This year’s Fair is also about being an African fair. The CTBF is a massively popular public event and our Facebook presence is a way to involve the public in the run-up to the CTBF. Where the story begins … is going to be great fun and we look forward to see what so many authors will have created when the story is brought to an end on the day before the fair starts.”
