GEORGIADES & MEINTJES LIVE

Greg Hadjiyorki Georgiades and Albert Meintjes at Phansi Museum on July 8.

Phansi Museum in Glenwood is to host Greg Hadjiyorki Georgiades and Albert Meintjes on July 7.

Greg Hadjiyorki Georgiades is known for his work on guitars, oud and bouzouki with a number of exciting musicians and groups including Steve Newman, Ashish Joshi, McCoy Mrubata, Syd Kitchen, Miriam Makeba , Vivid Afrika, Strings & Skins and even metal rock/rap group Not My Dog amongst others.

Albert Meintjes has made some refreshing moves on the acoustic world music scene with his acclaimed Scicoustic music project, as well as the Allen Wood Project and the Cubassa Afro-Cuban project. Both have quite different yet complimentary approaches on guitar with Albert on steel string acoustic and Greg on nylon acoustic.

The fusion of these two extraordinary artists brings an exciting new sound to the acoustic realm. Beautiful guitar pieces, carefully arranged in a whirlpool of melody, harmony and irresistible rhythms, together with vividly visualised lyrics dealing with the meaningful part of life and its journey … including the fun parts! Their long-awaited album Algrecko was released at the end of March 2010 and they have been on tour both in and out of South Africa playing shows to launch it.

The music starts at 19h30 on July 8. Admission fee R50 - bookings essential on 031 206 2889. Phansi Museum is situated at 500 Esther Roberts Road, Glenwood. More information on www.phansi.com
