SA’s spectacular instrumental pop group to give one performance in Durban.
SA’s spectacular instrumental pop group Sterling EQ will perform in Durban for one night only on July 16 at uShaka Marine World’s Upper Deck Restaurant.
The SAMA-nominated Sterling EQ took the entertainment industry by storm in 2009 with their genre-defying musical style and sensational live performance. Sterling has proved to be one of the most successful instrumental bands ever to come out of South Africa, through the extensive media coverage they’ve enjoyed and performing on the stages of coveted events such as the South African Music Awards (SAMA’s), FIFA Congress Opening Ceremony, FIFA Final Draw party, and IPL Cricket Tournament opening. They’ve shared stages with icons such as Boney M, Snow Patrol, Johnny Clegg, Parlotones and Lira, and have entertained local and international celebrities to the likes of Elton John, Annie Lennox, and Lance Armstrong, to name but a few.
Eriel Huang, first electric violinist of the instrumental super group, is especially excited to return to Durban, where she was born and raised until the age of 6. “I spent the first few years of my life in Durban North, and still have so many fond memories of the time and the place. The people are so warm and the weather is the Best!” Renate Riedeman, the group’s second violinist, was also born in Durban; “it’s always great coming back and performing to the people here”. Flute virtuoso (and record holding marathon swimmer) Carina Bruwer heads up the band, with cello diva Ariella Caira completing the killer instrumental four piece.
Sterling EQ will perform a selection of crowd pleasing melodies and show stoppers. Legendary instrumentals like the theme from Caravans and Chic Corea’s Spain takes audiences on a colourful trip down memory lane, while exciting contemporary versions of well-known Classics like Toccata and Storm (Four Seasons / Carmina Burana medley), South African favourites and original Sterling hits keeps the audience spellbound from beginning to end.
The performance takes place on July 16 at the Upper Deck Restaurant of The Phantom Ship at Ushaka Marine World. Tickets R85 available through Computicket. For more information contact uShaka Marine World on 031 328 8000.
