GOOLGOOLA JIVE HITS THE ROAD

Satchu Annamalai’s show based on his hit song embarks on countrywide tour.

Lotus FM listeners overwhelmingly voted for Goolgoola Jive as their favourite song to be played during the World Cup in South Africa. It outclassed two of the hottest songs in the country at the time, Wave Your Flag and Waka Waka (receiving more than double the votes for Waka Waka). The song went on to top the log over other past favourites such as Thereleye, Twist and Om Shanthi Om.

This represented a major coup for Goolgoola Jive’s creator, Dr Satchu Annamalai, as he prepared for his countrywide tour of The Goolgoola Jive Roadshow. Described as a Skit and Music Comedy, it was overwhelmingly given the thumbs up when an excerpt of the show was recently performed at the iZulu theatre at Sibiya.

The Goolgoola Jive Roadshow previewed in Merebank, Satchu Annamalai’s hometown, in August. Roping in high-flying celebrities such as the former Miss India SA, KZN, Derosha Moodley as well as Pauline Dalais of Lotus FM’s hit drama, Lollipop Lane and the much sought-after DJ Ree, the show has met with great success in its performances to date.

Derosha Moodley is a masters student at UKZN and also a Bharata Natyam graduate. In the show, she plays many roles as dancer and singer while performing both male and female characters. Her love for acting and her skills as a performer is well-documented. Although still in her early 20’s, Derosha Moodley has performed in many lead roles in The University’s Shakespearean productions. She is also remembered for her performances in the television productions, Broken Promises and Run for your Life.

“We have taken tracks from my first album and my second which I am working on at the moment, and worked in a drama element which is both relevant and funny,” Satchu Annamalai explains with his traditional one-dimpled smile. “The roadshow is unlike anything my audiences have seen but I am confident that they are going to love this show.”

The Goolgoola Jive Roadshow’s tour will continue late into December, covering most big towns in the country.Keep an eye out on the Events list on artSMart ( accessed through the window on the right hand side of the page)
