Back for its final curtain call during the 2010 festive season, the homegrown, Bollywood song and dance franchise Dance with me Baby will have a two-week run in the SUNZone at Suncoast Casino & Entertainment World from Sunday, 26 December to Sunday, 09 January.
Dance with me Baby – The Final will expand on the high tempo dance formula that has earned widespread praise for creator Shivani Kara of Eastern Moves Production, who is behind a slew of successes including the East Meets West Fashion Fusion Dance Spectacular, Bollywood Sleeping Beauty and Hum Tum. While its predecessors followed a subtle storyline, this show sees choreographer Kara letting the music and dance do the talking this time round.
“The music choices are still high-tempo, non-stop, pulsating sounds, from old Indian favourites to the biggest Bollywood pop hits of 2010, and the choreography is even more energetic. We’re also building on the highlights from the first two shows,” she says.
The show includes everything from conventional Indian dance forms, hip hop and kwaito to a Chinese hand dance and ballet performed to a traditional kathak drum beat. And it’s all infused with the sparkle and spice for which Bollywood – and Kara - are renowned. Set and stage design are by Black Coffee Productions with exotic Eastern costumes designed by Kara.
Some of the 38 strong cast have backgrounds in the performing arts, but the producer has stayed true to her reputation of giving young, budding performers exposure to the stage and helping them fine-tune their craft.
Dance with Me Baby ... The Final is two and a half hours long with a 20 minute interval. Seating is reserved. Tickets R120 pp via Computicket and the Suncoast box office.
There will also be a special 21h00 performance of the show on New Year’s Eve. Those who book for the show receive private access to watch SUNCOAST’s usual spectacular fireworks display at midnight on the SUNDeck. For more info visit www.suncoastcasino.co.za
