DEATH OF MATTHEW STEWARDSON

Actor-singer Matthew Stewardson died before his 36th birthday last week. It is understood that he died after a swim at Jeffrey's Bay beach.

The son of South African screen legend Joe Stewardson, Matt was a former KTV presenter, and a co-presenter of the first SA Idols, although his addiction to cocaine saw him removed from this production. He underwent a stint in rehab and then found his way back to the theatre scene. He was last seen in Durban at The Barnyard Theatre, in The Rat Pack swing show.
