CIRCLE OF LIFE

(Ian and Viv with Kasvia and Oscar)

Ian von Memerty and his family have become to South Africa what the Sound Of Music’s von Trapps are to the rest of the world. This versatile and multi-talented family is causing a storm the length and breadth of the country with their unique brand of family entertainment, and they are bringing their new show, Circle of Life, to The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway for two shows only on January 28 and 29.

The show will see South African theatre doyens Ian and Viv von Memerty sharing The Barnyard stage for the second time with their two children, Oscar (15) and Kasvia (10). The first time was in The von Memertys – A Celebration, seen at The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway in January 2009, after Oscar and Kasvia threw down the gauntlet to their famous parents and demanded their share of the spotlight.

“The first von Memerty family show Celebration worked so well that, after taking a break, we decided to do a whole new show. The experience and the increased maturity of the kids meant that we could take everything up several notches. Starting with our costumes - we are very proud and they are getting rave reaction, as is the choreography. And the new tricks - for instance Oscar's stand- up comedy routine which brings down the house, Kasvia's big new belting voice, and the precision and the flow of the show are earning us reactions that are simply inspiring,” said Ian.

The line-up includes I Got Rhythm, In The Mood, and Me And My Shadow; an over-the-top Bollywood Jai Ho; and a South African pennywhistle number. Ian and Viv revel in their new numbers of Evergreen, a passionate tango and paso doble, Besame Mucho, Let’s Get Loud and a sizzling samba medley.

With Ian the complete all rounder entertainer, Viv the elegant and stylish champion dancer, Oscar the hip hop king and short stop comedian, and Kasvia singing like an angel, Circle of Life is a rare thing - an uplifting show which is also dazzling entertainment.
