A collection of songs and music for old and young alike all strung together with the age-old argument from the Ballies in the show Ballies and Babes: “The music of today isn't music. It was better back in the day.” Well … was it?
Featuring Gary McKenzie, John Didlick, Marion Loudon and Lauren Laing, the show takes a look at the songs that were a hit back then and compares them to the musical outpourings from today’s young artists. It showcases the songs that shaped the musical landscape of yesteryear poignantly juxtaposed with current hits and some "misses".
Expect Elvis, Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole trading punches with Rihanna, The Black Eyed Peas and Beyonce. Do Amy Winehouse and The Beatles really have anything in common? And what dark secrets do Cliff Richards and Christina Aguilera share?
The show features something for everyone. A musical paella for the whole family to tuck into. From Sonny and Cher to Eminem, Kenny Rogers to Christina Aguilera, with a few Grammy winners and few forgettable one-liners for good measure.
Ballies and Babes runs at The Heritage Theatre in Hillcrest until April 3. Tickets R190 Wednesday to Saturdays (R165 Tuesday evenings and Sunday lunch time shows) include a delicious two-course meal.
