RENE TSHIAKANYI

Charming visiting French-Congolese singer Rene Tshiakanyi will performing at venues in and around Durban over the Easter break. He has also been invited to perform at the Acoustic Affaire festival at the Alliance Française on May 6, featuring an eclectic mix of musicians from the French diaspora who specialise in acoustic music.

From the Congo, Tshiakanyi sings both in French and English. He describes his music and compositions as a mixture of classic pop; RnB; reggae and Zouk (which is a mixture of French and Caribbean music). His sound is undeniably distinctive.

His debut single La presse s’efface celebrates those journalists who have given their lives in the DRC to the pursuit and ideals of media freedom. He pays tribute to other journalists around the world who feel compelled to do the same, in the pursuit of both truth and freedom of expression. It was nominated in the U.K twice as videochocwavesawards by the English magazine the NME Music. Rene Tshiakanyi is now promoting the coming of his debut album which he is in the process of recording.

Tshiakanyi can be seen on April 15 from 18h30 to 20h30 at La Vie En Rose, Heritage Market on April 16 from 12h30 to 14h30 at Market, Marriot Road / Gladys Mazibuko Road and on April 17 from noon until 15h00 at Olive and Oil, Hillcrest.

The following week, he appears on April 23 from 10h00 until 13h00 at Essenwood Market; on April 24 from 13h00 to 14h00 at Ile Maurice French Restaurant in Umhlanga Rocks, and then on May 1 at the KZNSA Gallery from 14h00 to 16h00.

A further Durban performance includes an appearance at Yossis, Glenwood on May 11 between 19h00 and 22h00.
