South African born pianist Renée Reznek will give a solo concert at Howard College Theatre on April 12 at 19h30. She will play a varied programme of works by composers; Leoš Janácek, Claude Debussy, Giles Swayne and Olivier Messiaen as well as South African composers Hendrik Hofmeyr and David Earl.
Renée Reznek holds a Bachelor of Music degree cum laude from the University of Cape Town and two Masters degrees in Piano performance and Musicology from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor where she studied with Gyorgy Sandor on a piano scholarship. Her other teachers were Lamar Crowson, Susan Bradshaw and when on scholarship to the Mozarteum ,Carlo Zecchi .
Whilst undertaking doctoral research into the Second Viennese School at Oxford University, she made her London debut in the Park Lane Group’s series “Young Artists and Twentieth Century music”. Her association with the PLG continued with her taking part in their 25th and 50th anniversary celebrations.
Her recitals of 20th century and contemporary music have often included works written for her as well as many first performances of new pieces. These concerts have been cited as amongst the best recitals of the London year by the Financial Times and Music and Opera Review. She has given piano recitals throughout the UK and abroad, recording for radio and South African television. She taught at Cambridge University for many years and now lives in London, teaching privately from home.
