("Blue Postbox" by Lanel Janse van Vuuren)
Twelve Durban-based artists have teamed up to present a body of new photographic work surrounding the theme of Homing. This exhibition opens at the KZNSA Gallery on May 10.
The artists include Andrew Griffin, Troy Inman, Harry Lock, Peter McKenzie, Neith Moore, Michele Silk, Lanel Janse van Vuuren, Thulani Welcome Ngcobo, Ernest Siphiwe Mthembu, Vincent Musa Chala, Thulani Derrick Mbhele, Emmanuel Nkosinathi Shangazi.
What distinguishes this exhibition is the wide range of intentions and modes of presentation that the members of the group have chosen to show their work. From an installation of light-boxes to digital prints on paper, a sculptural installation of a street ‘spaza’ and large-scale photographs printed on wallpaper and glued to the gallery walls, this is no regular documentary photographic exhibition.
Homing runs at the KZNSA Gallery from May 10 to 28. The opening on May 10 takes place at 18h00. The guest speaker will be Professor Rodney Harber, architect and urban & regional planner as well as former president of the KZNSA. A warm and nourishing supper will be served.
The KZNSA Gallery is situated at 166 Bulwer Road, Glenwood, in Durban. More information on 031 277 1703, fax 031 201 8051 or cell 082 220 0368 or visit www.kznsagallery.co.za
