GIRLS WANNA ROCK

The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway gets glamourous as it pays tribute to girls who have rocked our world with their latest production, Girls Wanna Rock which promises to be the ultimate in rock and roll sexiness. The show features a scorching hot all-girl cast who will storm the stage, shatter guitars and get audiences rocking in no time. The alluring five front singers and six-piece band pay tribute to the rock chicks of today, to the pop sounds of the 80’s, to the disco divas of the 70’s and the flower children of the 60’s.

The show is hosted by a slick, talented, good looking and charming man playing a multitude of roles from the man in uniform, to the beach lifesaver, the crooner, the fifties rock ‘n roller, the 60’s hippie, the disco dancer, the 80’s nerd and, of course, the hip hop rapping cool dude!

The show features seven decades of music starting in the 1940s with post-war songs like Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy and swiftly moves on to the 50’s icons such as Marilyn Monroe, Patsy Cline, Nina Simone, Wanda Jackson and Nancy Sinatra. The girls want to get married and they are Going To The Chapel and Feel Like A Natural Woman, and then when things get rough they feel like a Chain Of Fools and also command some Respect. The new age girls also head to the work place with Nine To Five by Dolly Parton, and Honey I’m Home by Shania Twain…..after Goldie Hawn’s - A Hard Days Night where she has been working like a dog!

Girls Wanna Rock is also about fun when the girls head to the beach and party with songs like Party Time by Gloria Estefan and California Girls by Katy Perry. The icons of the 70’s and 80’s are saluted with a mind-blowing tribute to Cyndi Lauper, Annie Lennox, Madonna, Cher, Whitney Houston and let’s not forget Tina Turner.

In the second half there’s a blondes-have-more-fun tribute to Madonna, Christina Auguilera and Britney Spears. Then it’s time for the soaring ballad when the girls pay tribute to Celine Dion and Mariah Carey. Just when you thought it could not get hotter it’s the turn of the phenomenal Lady Gagga, who dominates with Bad Romance and Poker Face. Then there’s the softer side of women with The First Cut Is The Deepest by Sheryl Crow and Hand In My Pocket by Alanis Morissette. The current day girl divas are saluted with a rocking medley of hits by Pink, BeyoncĂ©, Kelly Clarkson, Katy Perry, Avril Lavigne, Amy Winehouse and Taylor Swift.

The homegrown girls get into the South African groove with a tribute to Brenda Fassie, and build to a climax with Shakira and Freshly Ground’s Waka Waka. Girls Wanna Rock is the ultimate party with a song list that will appeal to every generation.

Rock and roll has always been created on men’s terms, and women were always seen as the adoring fans. Well, that’s in the past and it’s the girls turn in The Barnyard Theatre in 2011!
