Footprints is an exhibition that brings together various community groups and individual artists and crafters in a celebration of the role that art and craft can play in creating awareness around issues of recycling, sustainability, environment and climate change.
Running in the Durban Art Gallery, the exhibition will take place from October 9 to November 1, 2011, coinciding with the build-up to the COP 17- CMP7 Climate Conference to be held in Durban.
Regarding work to be submitted, the answer is clear-cut: “We want to cast the net as wide as possible,” says the overall task sheet. “Work using recycled materials, and work in any media exploring environment, sustainability, climate change, carbon footprints, and other related issues will be considered. Our interpretation of the exhibition theme will be broad and flexible; our main objective is to attract the best possible art and craft.”
Community groups and individual artists and crafters are invited to book space and submit work for the event. The organisers are looking for larger, gallery style and quality pieces, as opposed to a lot of small pieces. This will not be a “flea market” style exhibition.
Interested parties should contact Robin Opperman to discuss space and work to be submitted. Images of work, artist statements and personal and organizational profiles to be collected for the catalogue and publicity. All work to be delivered 09h00 to 11h00 on October 5 to Gallery One at the Durban Art Gallery.
Foot Prints will be opened on October 9 at 14h00 in the Durban Art Gallery’s Gallery One and runs until November 1 when the exhibition will be broken down. Work is to be collected on November 1 as a new exhibition will be building up the following day.
