PASCAR DUBE TO NAC

Pascar Dube, who theatre organisations will know well from his years working as Artistic Co-Ordinator/ Associate Producer at the Playhouse, has been contracted by the National Arts Council of South Africa to serve for three years on the Theatre and Musical Theatre Advisory Panel.

Born in 1981, Pascar studied drama at the Durban University of Technology. He has also worked as a stage director and directed One for the Road for The Playhouse Company in 2007. Starring S’Dumo Mtshali (2010 Class Act), the production won him a Best Director Award in the prestigious Fools Awards. He has also worked professionally with Jay Pather’s acclaimed Siwela Sonke Dance Theatre and appeared as one of the brothers in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

His creative skills and academic background in choreography and directing created opportunities for him in presenting theatre works for the annual Jomba! Dance Festival, Red Eye Festival, Dance Umbrella Festival and the Macufe Festival (where he presented a paper). He Lectured at the Mbongeni Ngema Academy of Arts and has served as an external examiner for the University of Zululand’s Drama Department.

He served on the judging panel alongside Natalie Rungan and Ernie Smith for the Mbongeni Ngema Vezikhono Talent Search and worked as project manager for Izigigaba Zika Nandi Nothemba, a nursery rhyme book written by Nandi Ndlovu-Morake.
