Vuyani Dance Theatre’s (VDT) Artistic Director Gregory Maqoma, Artistic Assistant Luyanda Sidiya and Trainee Maleshwane Mohoasi are celebrating. They have been dubbed Best Choreographer (Dance Manyano Awards), Best Dancer (Dance Manyano Awards) and Best Newcomer (The City of Joburg's Community Development: Arts, Culture and Heritage CITY Festival Awards).
This comes during a series of accolades, blockbuster bookings and well-received standing ovations in Berlin, Zurich and Hannover where Maqoma’s Beautiful Me has just returned from a tour and now continues its legacy in Durban at this year’s Jomba! Festival on September 10 and 11. This is the first time Maqoma is performing in South Africa.
