Next weekend, from October 28 to 30, a feast of gardens and art will be displayed around the Underberg area in the Southern Drakensberg Open Gardens Festival 2011.
Nine glorious gardens in the Bulwer, Underberg and Himeville area include historic and established country and farm gardens as well as young village gardens. The Festival hub is at the Underberg Country Club, where a Tea Tent offers delicious teas and treats. This year it is also the place where the annual Garden Club Flower Show will be staged.
Artist and sculptor Sarah Richards will also be featured. “I have been asked to show my larger sculptures in the garden of the Underberg Studio,” she explains. “Bronze sculpture and gardens definitely go together. I am looking forward to seeing them displayed in the Brennon's garden in Underberg.
“Apart from the glorious garden there will also be a variety of original and carefully crafted ceramic works by Catherine Brennon and other ceramicists,” she continues. “Laurence Brennon also exhibits his well-known and powerful photographs.”
The Underberg Studio is situated at 21 Ridge Road, Underberg, and is open from 10h00 to 16h00. For more information on the gallery and gardens at this venue, contact Catherine on 072 141 9924.
At R30 per person, The Festival Pocket Guide serves as entrance to all gardens and will be available from the week preceding the Festival at Spar, Mike’s Restaurant, the Highlander and the Tea Tent at the Country Club. Also in Bulwer at Open Garden and Ard Lui B&B (next to the Police Station).
