Rainbow Restaurant has launched its 2012 Calendar to celebrate its 30th birthday!
“Since early this year, we have been working closely with local photographer and music supporter Rafs Mayet,” say co-owner Nicola Comfort. “Rafs is a well-respected photographer whose pictures of local musicians are very well known. He has also been a supporter of the Rainbow for many years. Because of his passion for music, he has captured many musicians at moments during their performances where words fail but his pictures speak volumes.
“We had a very difficult job deciding which pictures and artists would be included on this commemorative piece,” Nicola Comfort continues. “We wanted to honour the legends who have graced our stage and become Rainbow legends, as well as South African legends, but it proved so hard as there have been so many amazing times. However, after much discussion we have all agreed on this selection and anyway, there is always 2013!”
At R25 each, the calendars would make a great festive season present for music lovers as they aren’t just an indication of months and days but represent a work of art.
“Many thanks to our partners for helping us produce the calendar and get it out there at an affordable price,” adds Nicola Comfort. “Any profit from the sale of the calendars will go to photographer Rafs Mayet, whose historically important documentation of concerts at the Rainbow needs to finally be rewarded in a monetary sense.”
The calendars are on sale at R25 and can be obtained at the Phansi Museum in Durban or the Rainbow Restaurant in Pinetown. The Rainbow officially turns 30 on December 17 and there are already great plans in place for a massive weekend of celebrations.
